“Pets” Photo Challenge

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I have decided to use a photo of my dog Wrigley as my first submission to the I ? Faces :: Pets contest.  Wrigley is a rescue that was found under a trailer in West Memphis, AR nursing 7 puppies.  They believe she had been there for over a week; starving herself and caring for her newborn pups.  She just melts in your arms, melts your heart, and is grateful for every moment she spends with you.  So even if this photo doesn’t win, I’m glad I got a chance to share her story with you.

An Uneventful Weekend

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

My weekend was pretty uneventful until about 9pm on Saturday night when Our dog Wrigley went bonkers on our other dog, Cohen. I’m not certain what got into her. I’m guessing those 6 glazed donuts I gave her for dinner weren’t the best idea. I have never seen one dog SLAP another, but Wrigley always manages to stand out from the others. Cohen finally defended himself, but not before she got a few good whacks in.  This is just how Wrigley plays. She just goes ALL IN when she plays. I’m beginning to think she was raised by lions.

Maurice the Mallard

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Okay, so this picture is one of Wrigley’s may sleeping positions.  This little girl loves to sleep with her front legs crossed.  What a proper young lady.   (Hey Wriggs…I think you’re supposed to cross the back ones…you know…to hide the goods)

Next to her is Maurice the Mallard, her baby.  She has had this little ducky for almost a year.  She adores this thing.  However, when other dogs come over they tend to play tug-o-war with Maurice, and he tears at the seams.  Typically, Wrigley treats her toys very well.  he treats them like her children (sometimes step-children), but her children none the less.  However, since others have assisted in creating a tear Maurice, his stuffing began to show.  Wriggly has finally un-stuffed Maurice, ripped out his squeaker, and now carries around a lifeless piece of fabric duck.  It’s tragic, but adorable.

We will all miss you, Maurice!

After watching Wrigley contort into numerous positions while taking her mid-afternoon nap…I decided to keep a photographic record of her numerous sleeping positions.

She lays like this all the time. You will find her sleeping like this in her dog bed. This started occurring after her 1st month with us. It’s mind-botteling why she lays like this.

Making Friends

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Derek & I have friends down the street, Betsy & Jonathan, that have a female GSD too. There dog’s name is Raja and she has the same sable coloration as Wrigley. Raja is a bit bigger, but when the girls get together and play they look almost identical.  So when Raja comes over to play it’s really hard to tell them apart.

These two are alike not only in looks, but also in their chaotic personalities.  These feisty females do nothing but wrestle.  Wait, I take that back…..Raja seems to enjoy exploring Wrigley’s belly.  I think she is jealous of Wrigley & Cohen’s relationship (Cohen & Raja are long time BF & GF) On the other hand it could be lust.  You tell me…..

Wiggley Wrigley

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

This is about our dog Wrigley. She was found under a house in West Memphis, AR…with seven puppies, and was thought to have been caring for her puppies for two weeks. This poor girl was thought to only be 12-18 months at the time.

Puppies having puppies…

She & her puppies were taken in by a local GSD Rescue group in September 2007. Once her puppies were weened and she was spayed, Wrigley came to live with us and our other GSD Cohen (4yrs). This poor baby came to us drastically underweight and with a bad right hip. The vet tested out her hip and said she seems to experience no pain from her bum hip. We believe she most likely was hit by a car when young and never had medical treatment. The vet believes her hip healed on its own, but not in the socket. Scar tissue & muscle hold her hip in place. This little girl is determined to make it. I think this dog has experienced more in her 1st year of life than I have in my 27yrs.

Wrigley is wonderful. I couldn’t love her more. She is all lap dog and nothing short of ecstatic when she sees us walk in the door each afternoon.

Oh, yeah…..did I mention she is absolutely CRAZY!!!!! When we leave the house she goes bananas!
