Gray’s 1st Birthday Party :: Part 2

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Just look at this baby. You think he can’t get any cuter, and then…..BAM! I go and throw a bow tie and Tom’s on the kid.

This post is dedicated to friends, family, and fun had at the party.

Here’s the Papa Bear excited and waiting for the par-tay to start. See that t-shirt he’s wearing? It’s his favorite. You will come to know this shirt if you read this blog often. Sorry. Want proof? Read Grayson’s birth story. I guarantee you will see him wearing it in the delivery room. I love how he is beginning to make this his “special occasion” outfit. I mean, I love Robert Randolph and all, but…

Once again I found myself in the dollar section at Target picking up a few sets of these foam blocks. We wanted all the kiddos to have something to play with while the ‘rents were busy socializing. Boy oh boy did I pick a winner. Grayson wouldn’t stop playing with the things. I swear, about 60% of the party you found him on the floor doing this…

The ever so gracious host took a break from playing blocks to greet arriving guests and accept gifts in exchange for admittance.

Let’s just say that there were kids EVERYWHERE. Remember in Part 1 when I said there were 500 kids at the party? Well I may have over estimated a smidge, but I was close. Check this out…

Me and the birthday boy. Don’t you just love that bib? I found it on Etsy, but it was already sold. So, I convoed the seller and she just happen to have one piece of fabric just big enough to make one last bib. I just checked her shop and she currently has another one for sale. I guess she picked up/found more of that fabric.

Proud and just a tiny bit nutty grandpas.

And for Brody, his favorite part of the party were the balloons. This kid is so classy that he matches the balloons he plays with to his outfit. Now that’s style!

I love this shot of him sitting with the balloon, and inspecting the string. Presh.

Don’t mind us. We’re just to cool dudes maxin’ and relaxin’ with our sleeves rolled up checkin’ out some totally hot babes.

And then Brody tried to make a run for it. He would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for that whole not-quite-tall-enough-to-reach-the-handle thing.

Up next, smash cake and presents! Stay tuned.

Didn’t Want to Leave You Hanging

Sunday, August 21st, 2011

Gray is now officially O-N-E!!!! I can’t believe it. We’ve been keeping busy around here, so I thought to soothe the itch all 5 of you are having to see birthday photos I would drop a few edits on ya!

The cake…

Daddy and the birthday boy…

I promise my blues matched. Colors do funny things in red/orange lighting.

These were a huge hit. I hung multiple faces in hats all around the party area. I love this face.

Hopefully, I will be back soon to photo bomb your brains out. Sorry, that sounded dirty.

Get Psyched!

…cuz it’s almost Gray’s 1st birthday!!!!

You can’t see me, but right now I’m running in circles around my living room twirling a cloth diaper around my head and cheering like only a true nut job can. Don’t worry it’s a clean diaper.

My little dude is about to turn O-N-E. Can you believe it? I can’t. To celebrate Gray’s 1st birthday, Derek took a much more sane and mature approach and made a movie trailer to remind everyone of the blockbuster that will be Grayson’s First Birthday Party! At least I hope it will be. I really need to get my $h!+ together, or this party will tank harder than Mariah Carey’s attempt at the big screen in Glitter. Really, someone had the nerve to name a movie Glitter? They might as well have called it “Rainbows and Unicorns, I Love Ponies”, because it would bring in just as many people.

Sorry, I got lost in my head. I swear, right now it’s just a bunch of thoughts, ideas, and to-dos running around in there screaming “you can’t catch me!” And they are right, I can’t.

So yeah, my baby is about to become a big boy. I’m a little bit happy and a whole bunch of sad about it, but right now I’m trying to focus on the happy.

3/12/10 :: day 127

My tail bone is constantly sore…no matter what type of chair I sit in.  I’m about this close (holding up my hand with my thumb and pointer finger a 1/2 inch apart) to bringing a chair doughnut to sit on at work.  Not to mention when I do my kegal exercises it agitates my tail bone even more.  I guess those muscles are connected.

3/16/10 :: day 131

I am so unbelievably tired today.  Both Derek and I got very little sleep last night.  I figured the night BEFORE we found out the gender of our baby would be a sleepless night…boy was I wrong.  I zonked out the night before, but the night of…I couldn’t get my mind to slow down.
Yesterday was the big day.  Baby Sex Day, as Derek likes to call it.  He thinks the shock of the wording is funny.  I think so too.  So, Derek went with me to the doctor yesterday to find out what we were having.  They called us right back for the ultrasound.  We were taken a little off guard that we were doing that 1st thing, but we were still very excited.  The technician scanned the baby’s head, kidneys, bladder, and limbs, and then she moved on to the moment of truth. IT’S A BOY!  Just as she said those three little words a tear ran down my cheek.

We invited close friends and family over for the big reveal last night.  I thought it would be fun to reveal the baby’s gender to everyone by having everyone bite into a “baby” sized cupcake and finding either pink or blue on the inside.  We also picked up some BBQ sandwiches from a local BBQ joint, Central BBQ.  It was so yummy.

Once we got home from the doctor’s office I began adding the blue icing to the cupcakes and then topping them with vanilla to mask the inserted color.

It's a boy!

People began arriving around 6:30pm.  We dug into some BBQ and then around 7:20pm the big cupcake reveal happened.  Everyone was extremely excited.  Including little Sophie you see in the picture below, we had a grand total of 17 people partaking in the big reveal.  And they all were able to fit inside of our teeny tiny house!

I think my mom and sister were hoping for a girl…maybe next time.  My mom even brought a present for a little girl.  It was the sweetest little blue and white cotton dress you’ve ever seen.  Sorry mom.   :(

Our friends Ryan and Sarah arrived just a few short minutes after the reveal so I pulled them aside, and gave them each a cupcake.  They each bit in and saw the blue.  However, Ryan yells out IT’S A GIRL!  We all began to laugh because we thought he was just kidding…like he always does.  Come to find out he was serious.  He told us later in the evening that he was expecting it to be a girl, and didn’t register the color.  He just saw “a color” and shouted from the roof tops that we were having a girl.  That guy cracks me up.

In all, it was a great day ( and night ).  I’m so thankful that we have friends and family that love us so much that they chose to share this special day with us.

3/17/10 :: day 132

YOUCH! My tail bone and lower back are aching.  I’ve only been sitting at work for 2 hours and I’m already needing to get up and walk around.  I have stood up in my cube and stretched 3 times this morning, and I’m about to go for #4.

Since most of you reading this weren’t in attendance….here is a video of how it all went down.
