The Underdog

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Okay, so I have been reading the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I am currently on the third book, Eclipse, and right now…I am holding strong on Team Jacob. The storyline in the books portray Jacob as the best friend who is hopelessly in love with the main character Bella.

Don’t get me wrong Edward, the vampire Bella is in love with, is an amazing guy too. It’s just that I adore the innocently deep love Jacob, Bella’s best friend, offers her. As my husband will tell you…I for some reason have a soft spot for the underdog in many situations…sporting events, TV shows, movies, and now books about Vampires & Werewolves. It also helps that the person who plays Jacob Black, Taylor Lautner, in the movie Twilight is a cutie. And for the sequel, New Moon, Jacob (a.k.a. – Taylor) has really bulked up! Yea!!!

I’m not a huge reader, but I feel sometime that my literacy is slipping away. So, occasionally I will pick up a good book and immerse myself in the story. My friend Sarah turned me on to the Twilight series, thanks Sarah, and I loved the 1st book so much I decided to continue with the other 3 books.

I’m not one for the way overly graphic romance novels, so I stay away from those. But these books have a magnificent mixture of a love story, action, history, and myth.

Movie & a Milkshake

The other night Derek and I sat down to watch a Matthew McConaughey classic named ‘Surfer, Dude‘.  The title pretty much sums the movie’s plot up…it’s about a surfer.  Need I say more?  I can pretty much guarantee that the entire cast was baked during the entire making of this cinema classic.  Although this movie may never win any major awards; it did a sufficient job of entertaining us for the evening.  I did not mind drooling looking at the man for 80+ minutes. I mean would you?

(Side Note: Derek and I have a strange obsession with Matthew McCohaughey’s laugh…we can’t get enough of it, and this movie offered plenty of his giggles)surfer-dudeAs a tasty treat to eat during the movie Derek suggested that we make chocolate milkshakes.  So we whipped out the new blender for the first time (it’s a beehive Oster…looks so sweet) and mixed us up some frosty delights.  Derek felt the need to taunt Cohen with some of the ice cream on a spoon.  It wasn’t very nice of him, but Cohen’s facial expressions were worth the puppy taunting.
