Master Jedi Cohen

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Here is another “mishap” shot from my little puppy photo shot the other night.  I was laughing so hard at this poor guy that the camera was shaking uncontrollably from the muscle spasms in my stomach.  I couldn’t get the kid to sit for the life of me.  If I tried to push his butt down he would stiffen his legs in preparation of a butt scratching.  You see, if it even looks like your hand is heading for his hips Cohen assumes that you are moving in to scratch his butt, and locks his legs so that he may brace himself for the sensational scratch-fest about to ensue….or so he thinks.

It’s almost as if he’s saying, DO I LOOK FANCY ENOUGH IN THIS?  Yes Cohen, you look very ~fancy~ .

Tub Time

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I was looking through our home videos the other day and came across this one of Wrigley’s 1st bath….her 1st bath as our dog anyway.  She is being such a good girl.

Now, she R U N S past the bathroom door with her ears pressed flat, and her head ducked down between her shoulders as if to say….IF I SCURRY BUY THE BATHROOM DOOR ALL CROUCHED DOWN MAYBE I’LL BE INVISIBLE, AND THROW ME IN THE TUB.

Look how tiny she is in this video.  She’s a healthy 70-something lbs today.  When we adopted her she had just weaned a litter of puppies.  This caused her to have a case of the droopy boobies.  (that ’s the best thing I could think to call them)  If you look closely you can see them dangling in the video.  You will be glad to know that today you would never have guessed that she ever nursed puppies….7 puppies to be exact.

Snoring

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Is it weird that my dog snores LOUDER than my husband?  These two are like dueling banjos.  Banjos being run through a wood chipper!

Goldendoodle

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Last week Derek and I went to a new dog food store in our neighborhood.   Walking into the store we noticed a lady with her new puppy, on a leash, standing at the trunk of her car.  The puppy was sitting UNDER the trunk, hiding from the big scary cars in the parking lot … I assume.  The lady and her puppy came into the dog food store while we were checking out.  This sweet little puppy had giant rings of light gold curls with bronzed tips on each curl, all over her body.  And the biggest, blackest nose I have ever seen on a puppy.

I just had to know what breed of dog this adorable little thing was.  So I asked.  The dog’s owner said she was a Goldendoodle.  I was all a goldendoodle?  What poor beed did they pair the poodle with now?  Turns out a Goldendoodle is a Golden Retreiver and a standard sized Poodle.

This is not a picture of Daisy, but this IS what she looks like.  Too cute!

Seriously, if I wern’t so stuck on adopting rescued dogs I would make this my next little baby.  This little girl, Daisy, looked just like a stuffed animal.  I wanted to pick her up and run away with her.

“Pets” Photo Challenge

Monday, July 13th, 2009

I have decided to use a photo of my dog Wrigley as my first submission to the I Faces :: Pets contest.  Wrigley is a rescue that was found under a trailer in West Memphis, AR nursing 7 puppies.  They believe she had been there for over a week; starving herself and caring for her newborn pups.  She just melts in your arms, melts your heart, and is grateful for every moment she spends with you.  So even if this photo doesn’t win, I’m glad I got a chance to share her story with you.

Smellie Ellie

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

This post is about a beautiful yellow lab named Ellie.  Ellie belongs to our friend Amy.  Amy rented a room from Derek before we got married.  Amy came home one day with the cutest, boniest, dumbo size eared dog I have ever seen.  Little did anyone know what this little girl had in store for them….

462443362_89112d6e4dJust look at that golden face, that flipped ear as if to say…”I’m the most noninvasive, calmest, non-slobbering puppy in the whole wide world!”.  Well Ms. Ellie I beg to differ.

Ellie truly is a super sweet and loving dog, but when it comes time to eat or drink that girl went and invented a whole new level of crazy.  Ellie ate her food abnormally fast, as if she hadn’t had a bite of food in 5 months.  Amy kept Ellie’s food in a plastic container that would hold about 3-4 days worth of food. One morning Amy left the container on the kitchen counter while she was in the shower.  Upon her re-entry to the kitchen, Amy found that Ellie had knocked the container to the floor, and successfully consumed 3 entire days worth of food…in 20 minutes.

Don’t even get me started on her water drinking chaos.  We bought rugs to place around the water bowl, because Ellie would drink with such a fury it was like someone did a cannonball into the water bowl each time she drank.  If Ellie and Cohen drank at the same time Cohen would emerge with a water drenched head. (no joke)  Once Ellie finished her water bowl massacre she would coat the floor leading from the bowl with a mixture of slobber and excess water that dripped from the sides of her open mouth.  I affectionately called her Slimer.

Although she was crazy about food, and much like an uncontrollable fire hose with water, Ellie is a sweet, loving, and extremely fun dog to have around.  Ellie truly believes that she is a lap dog, and will not accept any other way.  She loves, loves, loves to lick you, and doesn’t seem to understand personal space.  You might as well consider your personal bubble, Ellie’s personal bubble.

The poor girl was a rescue dog, and like many she had heartworms (comes with the territory of rescuing these sweet little guys).  After heartworm treatment many dogs tend to slow down.  Not this dog, she would play past the point of exhaustion…that’s a Lab for you.  She loved biting the water from the water hose in the back yard.  Ellie playing with the water from the hose was a treat for everyone!

Ellie and Amy have moved into their own house not too far away, but we sure do miss that crazy, lovable, hugable “Smellie Ellie”.
