The Underdog

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Okay, so I have been reading the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I am currently on the third book, Eclipse, and right now…I am holding strong on Team Jacob. The storyline in the books portray Jacob as the best friend who is hopelessly in love with the main character Bella.

Don’t get me wrong Edward, the vampire Bella is in love with, is an amazing guy too. It’s just that I adore the innocently deep love Jacob, Bella’s best friend, offers her. As my husband will tell you…I for some reason have a soft spot for the underdog in many situations…sporting events, TV shows, movies, and now books about Vampires & Werewolves. It also helps that the person who plays Jacob Black, Taylor Lautner, in the movie Twilight is a cutie. And for the sequel, New Moon, Jacob (a.k.a. – Taylor) has really bulked up! Yea!!!

I’m not a huge reader, but I feel sometime that my literacy is slipping away. So, occasionally I will pick up a good book and immerse myself in the story. My friend Sarah turned me on to the Twilight series, thanks Sarah, and I loved the 1st book so much I decided to continue with the other 3 books.

I’m not one for the way overly graphic romance novels, so I stay away from those. But these books have a magnificent mixture of a love story, action, history, and myth.

Six & Counting

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Well, today is our 1st big milestone of marriage….6 months!  People keep asking “How is married life?”, as if they expected to hear the we are already separated and deciding on who gets which dog.  All I have to say is…it’s perfect.  Not a darn thing hard or trying about marriage.  The key is to pick Mr. Right, not Mr. Right-Now.  That is exactly what I did.  Derek cracks me up on a daily basis, takes care of me when I am sick or feeling down, and knows what buttons not to push.  Did I mention he is extremely handsome?  I mean just look at him!

We haven’t had it easy these 1st 6 months.  We have re-financed our house, the “when we will have kids” discussion, a sick dog, numerous car problems, Derek studying for the GMAT, and various animals living under & in our house.  You just gotta take it as it comes and lean on others when needed.  Anywho….these 1st 6 months have been magnificent, and I am looking to many, many more.

Love you, Derek!

Happy Earth Day everyone!  In celebration of Earth Day and in an effort to help reduce our footprint on this  magnificent planet we call earth follow the link below to measure your footprint on the Footprint Calculator, and see how may planets it would take to support your lifestyle if everyone lived your lifestyle.  I am ashamed to say my lifestyle would take 4.5 planets.  What’s your planet number?

The Cake

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Our cake couldn’t have turned out any better.  We had a bakery in Southaven, MS named Brown Baguette make the cake.  I brought in a photo to the baker for inspiration and she took over from there.  Derek and I both think that our cake turned out better than the cake we mocked it off of.  Take a look….

We Love the Lissau’s

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Lindsey Lissau and her husband Casey were the photographers at our wedding.  Derek and I were looking for a photographer that we felt would capture our wedding with the photo-journalistic style we both love.  Our friend Betsy suggested that we check out Lindsey Lissau.  After looking at Lindsey’s website we were hooked.  Not only did we love the music playing on her page, we knew that Lindsey had the style Derek & I were searching for.

After our initial meet and greet with Lindsey and Casey. we felt very comfortable that we would work well together.  We were extremely lucky to have them shoot our wedding.  We could not be happier with the outcome!

Changing My Name

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

So this past week I went to the DMV to change the name on my license to my new last name “Davenport”.  Well little did I know, they made me take a new picture.  I think everyone has to take a picture anytime they renew now (if you go in).  Well at least my skin waited until after the wedding to do this, but it popped up a big fat zit on my forehead!  I also decided, for some crazy reason, to go with the “no smile” look for my new picture…and I look a tiny bit MAD.  I don’t look bad in the picture, but it definitely could look better.

Oh well, this just gives me incentive to look my best for the next time I get my license renewed. I did still have my honeymoon tan in the picture, so that’s a plus!  Oh yeah, I forgot to mention….my signature is worse than my picture!  Let’s just say that I must have started signing off the pad, because it looks like some guy named Ralph signed my license.

Dun…dun….duuuuuuunnnnn!

Five days until the big day.  I couldn’t be more excited to become Mrs. Jennifer Davenport.  And for all of you wondering, no I have not yet started practicing signing my new last name.  I need to get on that one…it’s a long last name. D-A-V-E-N-P-O-R-T.
