The Long Awaited Couch

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

It’s here, it’s really here.  Pottery Barn finally called last week and delivered our couch.  Although the color may be lack luster let me tell you that we tested many colors and fabrics before we settled on this one, and the Brushed Canvas in Walnut was a perfect camouflage for our two dogs massive amounts of fur they shed each day.   The dogs are not allowed on the furniture and we still find plenty of fur on the cushions.  It’s chaos I tell you.  The color of the couch is a nice neutral to our boldly green walls.  I think with a few colorful pillows added to the mix it will really look nice.

The picture below is before I ironed the slipcovers.  I have since ironed them and put them on properly and it looks even more wonderful.

Anywho….when Derek opened the door for the delivery guys to bring in our new family member he was met by a man standing with red roses in his hand.  Derek asked the guy if this was the most awkward part of each delivery.  The man answered YES.

The rose is part of what PB calls their White Glove Delivery.  Two delivery men come to your home with your new furniture with you guessed it, white gloves, and totally set up your new furniture.  This is accompanied by a hand written note from a PB employee (not really certain who) and a rose.  I think the rose is typically for the woman of the house, but occasionally they get awkward situations like the one today with Derek, when the lady of the house is not at home.

Did I mention that this has to be the most comfortable couch in the world?  Well, I meant to.  When you sit on this thing it’s like melting into a cloud.  Really!  You just m-e-l-t.  Derek and I honestly considered sleeping on the the couch together the 1st night.  This couch is deep enough for two adults to lay all the way across at the same time without the risk of one of them teetering on the edge and falling off.

A New Kind of Girls Room

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

No, we do not know the gender of the bean yet, but I wanted to have nursery mood boards done before the big reveal…which is in about 5 weeks.  Here is the mood board I put together for a girl’s room.  Now, I know it’s different from the norm, but it wouldn’t be like Derek and I to do something the easy way.

Girls Room collage

  1. The Magic Garden bedding is from Bunny Berry
  2. The sheep mobile is from Flensted in Denmark.  I found this one on Amazon.com
  3. Hootie Owl Canvas Wall Art is from Murals for Kids
  4. Harper the Hippo from the Littlealouette Etsy shop
  5. Wall Art from Trendy Peas
  6. Another view of the bedding

Derek and I want to stay away from pink as the main color, for a girl.  With girls, you tend to get tons of pink at your showers anyway; so why end up drowning in the color?  Ya know?  I wonder what my mom is going to thing about this girlie decor.  I hope to have a mood board together for a “possible” boy’s room here in the next few weeks.

I Pitty the Drool

Our friend Erin is extremely excited about our little one on the way.  So much so, that she has already begun adding to the baby’s wardrobe.  Check out these friggin’ awesome onesies she hooked the bean up with today.  Erin and I LOVE Etsy.com.  She said she found these at the Bambinamia Etsy Shop.

Erin’s husband loved the Mr. T shirt so much that she had a hoodie made for him (adult sized, not onesie sized).  Some of you may be a bit confused by the 2nd onesie with the beat on it that says Schrute Farms.  One of our favorite shows is The Office and a character on the show named Dwight Schrute owns a beat farm.  So there you go….Schrute Farms!

A Fresh Source of Wood

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Since we were having our hardwood floors refinished and purchased a new couch we decided it was a good time to say goodbye to our old 1/2 eaten couch and chair.   We decided to keep the love seat and move it upstairs to the office, but not before we swapped out the ripped cushions for the few remaining decent ones on the couch.  The couch, armchair, and ottoman got moved out to the curb for trash pickup.  Since these were so ratty and 1/2 eaten we figured not even the Goodwill would take these bad boys off our hands, so we then had the idea to try and re-purpose as many of the materials from the couch and armchair as possible.

Derek and our friend Jonathan love using the fire pit in the backyard and are always looking for a fresh source of wood to burn.  So the wood frame was intended to meet that demise, and I was planning on using the stuffing from the torn cushions to make throw pillow inserts for the new couch.  Well, it began to rain the day of, and the guys scrapped the idea of chopping up the frame of the couch for firewood.  I mean on a Saturday afternoon when they could be inside playing xbox and having a beer; who in their right mind would pick standing out in 40 degree weather, in the rain, and try to chop  a couch in half?  Well at least I got to steal some stuffing before the boys hauled our beloved, used, and abused couch and chair to the curb.  Goodbye Mr. Couch.  You were a good couch and you will be missed.  Thanks for all the years of giving us a place to sit, and for Derek and Cohen to nap.

Since we are still waiting for our NEW purdy couch to arrive we wanted something to sit on while we wait.  We decided to venture out the Pottery Barn Outlet to look for arm chairs.  Well as luck would have it they had nothing that we wanted in the seating department, but as we usually do we wandered over to the rug section to peruse the goods.  Look what we found!  We found this 5×8 wool rug for only $99.00.  SCORE!  I think this rug retails around $180-$200.

P.S. – We found out that our new couch won’t be in until around February 15th.  Ahhhhhhhh!

Balls of Joy (it makes me giggle too!)

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Since we have kind of an earthy/natural Christmas theme going on at our abode.  I’ve had the itch to make some of these terrarium ornaments for our tree.  They require zero care.  Well almost zero.  If you have animals like mine you gotta make sure they don’t clobber the Christmas tree, and break your beautiful creations.

I found this quick and easy little project on Design*Sponge (love that site), and wanted to share their “how to” for these Mossy Balls of Joy.

What you’ll need:

– clear glass ornaments

– dried moss

– twine

– pencil

– q-tips

optional- twigs, butterflies, feathers etc…

1. Tear off a small piece of moss and moisten slightly (this helps to keep the moss from crumbling a lot of dust inside).

2. With the eraser end of your pencil, gently push moss into the opening. Repeat this a few times until you have a forest floor on the bottom of your ornament.

3. Add any extras and poke with your pencil to style things as necessary.

4. Bend a q-tip and clean any debris stuck to the inside walls of the ornament.

5. Attach a piece of twine with a bow and hang.

One of My Favorite Things

Look at the adorable wrapping my new little snowflake ornaments came in.  I bought these cute little things from the Nesta Home Etsy shop.

This is one of my favorite things about buying things on Etsy!  I mean….has Target ever given you personal touches like this?  I think not.
