Smellie Ellie

This post is about a beautiful yellow lab named Ellie.  Ellie belongs to our friend Amy.  Amy rented a room from Derek before we got married.  Amy came home one day with the cutest, boniest, dumbo size eared dog I have ever seen.  Little did anyone know what this little girl had in store for them….

Ellie truly is a super sweet and loving dog, but when it comes time to eat or drink that girl went and invented a whole new level of crazy.  Ellie ate her food abnormally fast, as if she hadn’t had a bite of food in 5 months.  Amy kept Ellie’s food in a plastic container that would hold about 3-4 days worth of food. One morning Amy left the container on the kitchen counter while she was in the shower.  Upon her re-entry to the kitchen, Amy found that Ellie had knocked the container to the floor, and successfully consumed 3 entire days worth of food…in 20 minutes.

Don’t even get me started on her water drinking chaos.  We bought rugs to place around the water bowl, because Ellie would drink with such a fury it was like someone did a cannonball into the water bowl each time she drank.  If Ellie and Cohen drank at the same time Cohen would emerge with a water drenched head. (no joke)  Once Ellie finished her water bowl massacre she would coat the floor leading from the bowl with a mixture of slobber and excess water that dripped from the sides of her open mouth.  I affectionately called her Slimer.

Although she was crazy about food, and much like an uncontrollable fire hose with water, Ellie is a sweet, loving, and extremely fun dog to have around.  Ellie truly believes that she is a lap dog, and will not accept any other way.  She loves, loves, loves to lick you, and doesn’t seem to understand personal space.  You might as well consider your personal bubble, Ellie’s personal bubble.

The poor girl was a rescue dog, and like many she had heartworms (comes with the territory of rescuing these sweet little guys).  After heartworm treatment many dogs tend to slow down.  Not this dog, she would play past the point of exhaustion…that’s a Lab for you.  She loved biting the water from the water hose in the back yard.  Ellie playing with the water from the hose was a treat for everyone!

Ellie and Amy have moved into their own house not too far away, but we sure do miss that crazy, lovable, hugable “Smellie Ellie”.
